Speculation I've seen is that they're planning what essentially amount to a franchise revitalization. Not a reboot, but basically bringing DBZ back to the forefront as a major player. It's that SSSS project they've been talking about, with things like YO Son Goku, Episode of Bardock, remake of Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, the DBZ MMO, and this basically being preludes to the main event (Avengers style).

I'm not necessarily opposed to that, but if this is the plan, I hope they get a little more consistent in their plot-making/story-telling. Not that the original Dragonball canon was perfect, but it seemed a bit more 'authentic' than these, for lack of a better word.
