You know, I doubt you'll find any creative reason.
Rationale could be as simple as the target audience and the character focussed nature of this show. In the industry, demand for those services might not be as high as the demand for directors who specialize in otaku (or standard shounen/shoujo) shows, so you take what you're offered.
