Heavy heavy, so heavy that I decided to write this part pre-maturely:
Spoiler for Engagement:
“Ina-kun! Ina-kuun!”
Wandering about the lake’s edge, Tsurugi calls out to Inami but to no avail. After being informed by her parents that he’s hanging out by the lake to catch some fresh air, she jovially makes her way there to find him, eager to share her experiences at the IS Academy. Though he did not reply to her calls, she eventually spots him standing by the lake’s edge tossing pebbles which skips across the water surface.
*plop-plop-plop-plop-sploosh*
“Not bad.”
Despite her praise, Inami hardly showed any signs of response let alone a verbal reply and continues throwing pebbles into the lake.
“Hey, Ina-kun, what’s wrong?”
Realizing something is off she takes a step towards him.
“Hold it.”
Inami’s cold tone startles her that she immediately complies and halts. Something is definitely off and it does not help her at all as anxiety slowly builds up inside her heart. Worried that he’s troubled, she begins to think through what could possibly be the source.
“Tsu-chan… Who is Yuuki Mikado?”
Her heart sinks at the mention of the name, her supposed fiancé. Knowing his style, it is clear to her that he already know who he is and needs to hear it from her own mouth.
“Mikado-san… is my fiancé.”
The term itself is more than enough to shatter his fractured heart. He knew from the very moment her parents told him of their arranged engagement which is due to be held on his birthday. Deliberate or otherwise, it does not matter to him for it’s his beloved girl that has apparently betrayed his feelings. Even for a battle-hardened powered armor pilot, he’s not spared from the spiking pain of the revelation but he could still muster enough patience to reply with a sigh.
“Heh… How did that come about? Five years is plenty of time for such an arrangement.”
“I… I’m so sorry. I just couldn’t bring myself to tell you about this earlier.”
“Just answer the question.”
