No, he got punched for sending the wrong signals.
He didn't get cold feet about sex, he was leading Asuna on (albeit unintentionally, but that's what it feels like to her) by saying something suggestive and not considering the implications. She's mortified and embarrassed, especially after she made that romantic dinner and drew up her courage. Can't say I blame her.
