Edit: Found the source for the other and it's 10 million Yen, which is a little over $100,000 a month. That's more like it. And it's on all of their properties, not just Haruhi.

Okay, that makes sense (thank you for sources). Even then, the fans aren't being defrauded; the money's coming from sponsors, who don't care what they're advertising on, as long as it's seen.
