Well I think shocked silent is a pretty effective reaction as well. When seeing that kind of thing I'd understand people being so shocked and upset that even making a sound would be tough for them.

Geeze sucks for Lucy. It's like her role the last few arcs as been to be Fairy Tail's punching bag. I'm not exactly sure why she's the one who always ends up taking the beatings in this show.

Also have to say I've been against the "celestial spirits can pass through the gate without Lucy calling for them" for this reason. You run into a situation like this and end up asking "where the heck are they?" Sometimes they know she needs help and come through to help her and sometimes they are strangely absent so Lucy can be a punching bag. Whether it's this or the Flare fight you end up asking "where are the spirits like Loke who would come to her defense?"

It all ties together with this Lucy getting beat up so you can hate whoever did it. Used her in the first day for hating Raven Tail and now Sabertooth. We already hated Sabertooth, didn't need Lucy getting beaten to a pulp to take care of that.
