For example, if what drew Vivio and Yuuno to one another was, precisely, their intellectualism, because they're the kind of people who would rather curl up with a book than lose themselves in emotion, that the kind of emo-gushing-in-public that one expects from Young People In Love horrifies them (indeed, perhaps this is what draws Vivio towards older men in general?). You could actually make a very good story out of the disconnect between what they like about each other and what their friends and contemporaries think they like about each other (and a bit of slapstick comedy, too), and spiral out from there into things developing from that stage into real love.
