Dream Catcher is actually a brain to brain interface machine that connect pilot mind with the target's mind....

Since the pilot is affected by hallucination (ability to feel imaginary things), the target is also affected by the same Hallucination. Hence when the pilot fire a shot from imaginary gun....

the information of: "A shot had been fired at you" is transmitted to the target's mind....

If the target know he can't dodge bullet, he will get shot and his brain will register it as physical damages....resulting in pain or loss of control over limbs (false signal...thing).

If the target truly believe that he can dodge the bullet, he will dodge the shot....and fire back.... there is a return signal which feedback into the machine... and yes, the pilot can get shot by imaginary gun fired by its opponent.

During this period of communication, both will stall.....(they are fighting with their mind)

Unfortunately, most people can't defend themselves during the mind to mind connection because they are not used to sudden change in things.... (scenery changes... things suddenly transform into something else).

Alternative 1:
Dream Catcher introduce the noise into the electronic system which affects electronics, preventing them from working....
Then the returning wave (from the brain to brain connection) give a brief information on how the circuit work so that the machine can alter the noise and transform them into false signal
