Spoiler for ep 20:
Seriously, Touka, if you want to take the kid to Tokyo, I can think of easier ways than winning mahjong tournaments... if you're so wealthy, why not just buy some train tickets and get some hotel rooms? It's got to be cheaper than grabbing some street urchins and turning them into your maids to create the BEST MAHJONG TEAM EVER. lol. And frankly, it's got to be more convenient... But that's why we love Touka, I guess. She'll do anything for Koromo, even if it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
The episode felt... weird. I can't really put my finger on it, and the grainy video of the raw I watched may have something to do with it, but something just felt "off."
I agree with the others who have said that Saki's impression of her sister and the real thing are totally out-of-whack. Seriously, what's up with that? Even compared to what little we saw in the article early on, and based on other flashbacks, she seemed like a confident person, not some creepy person as she comes across now. (Is Kazekoshi's coach splitting time between schools to abuse kids in a different school just for fun?) Seriously, what's up with the mood there? I've been to funerals more fun than that. Is that from consulting with the mangaka, or is that just Gonzo-ification? (Yeah, I know Gonzo isn't in complete control anymore, but what do we call it then?)
Shame we probably won't find out until the second series... which probably won't happen for a few years. (At least until the manga catches up again.)
I really liked the scene at the end from Mako's POV when Saki came in the room to join the club, focused on Hisa's hands. That was cute.
And the other funny thing-- nobody from Ryuumonbuchi still seems to know Saki's name. (At least not Koromo.)
It's too bad Koromo doesn't feel like playing. I kind of wanted to see a Saki-Koromo-Nodoka-Touka game. I guess we won't see that. That would have been amusing, even if it was just for fun.
I like Yumi's strategy for Kaori-- don't play, to retain your "beginner's luck." In other words, if you stay clueless, you'll be able to confuse the hell out of players like Mako and drive them to drinking in the individual tournament. lol.
