And (for once?) I do sort of agree with you that it was a bit of a boring episode, but all the D.C. references really made it worth it for me. Plus, I liked the way they handled Anzu story and slipped it in there. I guess you could say that it's sort of a "setup" or "transition" episode? In the grand scheme of things it was needed, but it doesn't pack too much punch by itself.
Regarding your point about them being stupid for not believing Junichi, though... I think that was exactly the point Junichi was making -- it may sound unbelievable, but magic does exist after all. They take certain things for granted just because it's always been there (like the wagashi magic), without realizing that some of those things are already pretty strange. Plus it was the whole younger/older generation thing -- "what's this old fart talking about?" sort of thing. So I sort of agree that they were being dense for not taking him seriously, but at the same time I found their doubt pretty realistic given the age of the characters. It's just like teenagers talking to their grandparents about the old times. We, the viewers, obviously have the benefit of knowing better, which makes watching this mystery be unravelled by the characters both a bit more interesting and a bit more mundane at the same time (because it takes them a while to figure out/believe things we already know to be true).
