Even if the two came out at around the same time, that's not going to stop the franchise fans and faithful, and that's who these movies are aimed at. They're not really expecting random people to walk in off the street.

Yeah. The interesting thing with Anime is that Japan knows it is all about the niche market. As long as they give enough incentives, the fans would show up. They can thus save money on Marketing as only those "in the know" are the real customers.
