And we get Abengane’s scene here. In the manga, this scene was at the end of chapter
146 which is after the “big moment” of this episode which happened at chapter
144 which in my opinion makes more sense and I’ll explain that later…
In the manga, Abengane gives the two the same explanation Nickes gave to his team on their plan and what to do. This is manga only.

Time is running out… let’s exorcise Pazuzu- Oh wait, wrong franchise! The explanation of his ability was done by the narrator in the manga. In the anime, it’s by Abengane the same way was done with Hisoka’s abilities back at Heaven’s Arena. And damn, Madhouse sure made that thing looks NASTY!! The OVA version is nothing less with its saliva strings!!

Now back to chapter
144
A minor change, but Genthru’s ring is on his ring finger instead of the middle
(Too rude to have a ring on the middle finger on a TV show?!) This whole scene was omitted from the OVA.
NOW it’s the big moment… not only did it happen, but they actually gave a brief false sense of security for a moment! And we also cut to see the rest of the players explode as well!! May not as gory as the manga, but hey, at least they did it and full on! Nickes is still alive at the end, but not for long…! The OVA was….. Well, Puhat is here since he didn’t die alone, but other than that, we saw
NOTHING! The scene switches to Gon and Biscuit and not only we don’t see anything but a flash of light, we don’t even hear an explosion! All what we get was a puddle of blood! Oh, and they didn’t ask for Leave in the OVA.
Now going back to this scene and Abengane’s, the manga gave the feeling that the bombing happened for quite some time and it felt weird that Abengane’s bomb hasn’t been detonated yet while everybody else went boom. So I find placing the two scenes at the same time was better and gave a suspension feel to it. “Will he remove the bomb before it explodes?” and I thought that was interesting and better made that the manga. The OVA did the same thing, but it wrapped up Abengane’s scene before the massacre so it wasn’t as suspending.

Back to chapter
147… We have this scene in Madhouse’s adaptation where Gon thinks of going to the base to see if they can save anybody there. This scene was in the manga. However, there was a previous scene where we see that he was aware that they can’t do anything which was present in the OVA.
Another date here that’s manga only. The Hunter Exam starts at January 7th. She also mentions that the exam usually takes at least a week and at most a month.
The manga gave a list of the current collection. Madhouse just gave us a general look at their binders
The shadowy figure did not appear in Madhouse’s adaptation

We’re back to some familiar faces

Ko (or Shu?) exercise. This was the first exercise in Madhouse’s adaptation.
Blackout Curtain (Mentioned in the manga, but unseen)
Emission exercise take 1. This was the first exercise in the manga.
Emission exercise take 2.
This joke is absent from Madhouse’s adaptation
Say, aren’t you supposed to go to Pride Rock already?!

This week’s tutorial is “Blackout Curtain”

Not bad of an episode. Like I said, the chronology problem from the manga was fixed here and in a better way and the explosion was done better than what’s been anticipated. And even though there was some minor omitting, the pacing didn’t felt like it rushed or something.
The OVA on the other hand, no comment….
