I've reread everythign that i could remmeber was relevent to that event and this is what i conclude.

Vita recals that moment because in her mind the damage done to the area reminds her of what happen on that day. Also Nanoha wasn't alone that day Vita point to that her self on chapter 2 pages 18 and 19. Also in the scene were vita is holding Nanoha crying out to teh medical team to get there on the double you can notice that Raising Heart is rigth there and it is undamaged. This could only be possible if she hasnt been able to use it to defend her self. And that could only happen if it was an ambush. And Vita also says they had their gaurd down. So teh possibilaty they got jumped is very likely. And the fact Vita is uninjured while Nanoha is near death is probably because vita easyly defeated them.
