Although Noe would have liked to have Shinichiro, she understood that Shinichiro cared for Hiromi before he ever met her.

Aiko may care for Shinichiro, but she has a great guy (even though he got shafted, he stuck it out) with her. And not to be mean, but she got what she deserved for agreeing to go out with a friend of the guy you like.

That's not always true, but it is inevitable in most cases. The best way for romance drama is to have a shape (ie: love triangle) and that is going to leave someone alone.
