Okay, time to help...-should have been helping with translations before but was too busy with exams and now dealing with aftermath-

[Oshiete, Hayate-sensei Corner]

Today we will learn some of the basics of the Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha universe's combat tactics.

Your first lesson will be dealing with the two different kinds of combat mages that are currently available.

The combat mages are first divided into two main groups. Aerial and ground units. And in both of these groups are divided into five categories, perhaps more.

Ground combat mages are obviously not able to fly as you all are aware. Ground mages must focus everything into ground based combat, or when dealing with aerial opponents, they must find a way to knock down their targets or somehow get to them. Ground combat mages are proven mostly that they have the inability to fly in general or in some cases, flying is available to them but is a hinderance during combat. Ground based tactics usually include finding cover, firing from cover, flanking using cover, and coordinated teamwork with the rest of the squad. Ground combat mages work obviously best in groups, there are some specialists that can work alone or with one partner as proven by Subaru and Teana.

Aerial combat mages are obviously those who are able to fly, however their flight methods different between two groups. Like Fate who can fly on her own without the help of magical assistance, or like Nanoha or Hayate-chan who must fly with 'wings.' Aerial combat tactics are much different here. Reliance on high speed flight is usually a must for mages similiar to Fate, and high defensive and offensive capabilities for stationary aerial combat mages like Nanoha. Aerial combat mages, just like any military outlook have a higher advantage against ground based or even sea based units. Since Aerial combat mages are able to take advantage of their flight magic and conduct aerial combat against ground targets by quickly avoiding enemy fire and raining attacks from above without much fear of getting hit.

Even though I just gave a basic outlook on this, there are five classes that should be looked at. I learned of a fifth thanks to the Vivid manga.

Front Attacker: This is fairly simple to understand, they take the front of the battle, generally standalone without relying on others, their high defensive and offensive capabilities allow them to break through defenses and break apart enemy lines. Their job is simple, destroy enemy lines for the rest, destroy the enemy while their at it and do it with little support. Primary examples: Signum, Vita, and Subaru.

Center Guard: They act as the center of the group, providing both offensive and defensive fire for the team. Their job is to basically take down whatever they can while coordinating with the team as well as providing support fire when necessary to protect the team from danger. Primary examples: Nanoha and Teana.

Guard Wing: These are the support combat mages that are quickly switch between offense and defense when the need arises. Their job is to either assault with the Front Attackers, or protect the other three classes when the need arises. They are quick and rely heavily on speed for their jobs. Primary examples: Fate and Eriol.

Full Back: This is the support only class, based on the the kind of support is necessary. These mages stay out of combat and will support their members with augmentation spells, healing, summons and boosts. And in rare cases could possibly be used offensively depending on the tactic in play. Primary example: Shamal.

Wing Back: The latest class to be brought out. Not much is known exactly but based on the naming. It is possibly a hybrid of the Guard Wing and the Full Back. This class will most likely have attributes from both classes that work well. In the case of the Vivid manga. The class has proven to be able to combat against Guard Wings, while having the abilities similiar to summoners. Corona, the prime example of this case. Was able to dodge her friend Lio's attacks and summoned a golem. This class adds the versatility of the Guard Wing while being able to use the summons generally classed in Full Backs.

Lesson 2:

Tactics usually are based in these categories.
Duels: Generally involving similiar if not the same class of mages. Like a Front Attacker VS a Front Attacker.

Group combat: Two groups will conduct combat, though based on leaders, members and tactics, this can become hectic to deal with.

Single vs Multi: In many cases, one mage will be fighting multiple opponents all at once. Nanoha learns all of her aerial combat tactics when she was training mentally with Raising Heart who came up with battle simulation programs for her to do while she was in school. This is usually for only those mages that are able to deal with it. Though Teana had the misfortunate of dealing with three Combat Cyborgs against herself. Tactics are key in this combat system.

Since we're dealing with the MSLN A's Portable the Battle of Aces game.

It's mostly duels. In these cases, it is not just magical power, but it is also tactics, intelligence, ability to read the situation as it is, able to conduct tactics at will without fail, or sometimes a bit of recklessness. To make it apparent with the game and the translations...

yes it would be Aerial tactics due to the fact that spatial must also include Space. Since Nanoha is classed as an aerial combat mage, Center Guard, Class AAA+, her abilities and her own person as Fate would discribe her as would the sum of all that and more.

-shot for being a know it all Nanoha fan-
