Actually, you know what's the cleverest thing KyoAni could do at this point? Just proceed into September 1st (Sighs I, or whatever)
without immediate proper explanation! Open with Kyon soliloquizing "September the 1st! Whew! So, the technique the four of us hammered out to break Haruhi's loop HAS WORKED! YAY!" - and leave viewers wondering what it was!
Then, only later - either later in that episode, or more daringly,
several episodes later - have some excuse to bring up in conversation (e.g. between Kyon and Itsuki during one of their board games)
what the technique was.
By this means, KyoAni would have achieved the terrifyingly powerful emotional rollercoaster ride of "no ending, bad ending, bad ending" in
the same amount of screentime - 3 episodes, OK plus a tiny bit extra for the soliloquy-and-conversation-as-aftermath - as the "no ending, bad ending, good ending" that so many here say they'd have preferred!
Anyway, we'll find out how KyoAni play it in a few hours, hehehe...
