Basically Eneru wanted to go to "Endless Vearth" (Fairy Vearth, Endless Varse), which is why he built his flying ship, Maxim. At the end of the Skypeia Arc, Eneru flys to the "Endless Vearth" which turns out to be the moon.

As for Eneru returning, I'd expect him to. Looking at how Oda does things, I expect to see most villians return later in the story~
