It can be partially blamed on the media. In my opinion though, the main problem is that people are too lazy to do research themselves so they listen to the soundbites and believe it to be true.

I know as well as many others that either party will probably continue to attack each other one way or another, as immature and pointless as it is. But,
we,
the voters, shouldn't be taking sides by jumping on the bandwagon to attack the other party. It makes those people's votes seem biased and unfair, as well as immature.
