Well I have pretty bad humour sense so no wonder that your jakes all pass me through unnoticed.
Have you played VC game? If you did then how can you say that the characters where not the drive in it? They were, sure it had focus on strategy as well but it was not the only thing about it and in fact characters in the game were much deeper than the ones in the anime anyway (Alicia, Welkin etc.).
