While Absolute Defense DOES boost the body of the injured pilot, it does not stop heavy bleeding... losing a finger = certainly dead if untreated. That's why Laura using a loophole, beating the crap out of the girls AFTER their shield depleted (absolute Defense prevent injury, but they still felt the pain for some reason)
(Though I wonder how the hell her cable is able to kill them had she left alone)
