Athrun is an idiot. If anyone deserves massive hate in GSD it's him and not Shinn nor Kira.

But his half-way orb (the uniform) and his half-way ZAFT stance obviously suits him since if he wants to switch sides again he really doesn't need to put that much effort into it. And not putting a lot of effort into things and just being passive is just his style.
