"Understatedly sad/melancholic" is probably how I'd sum it up. Her songs in particular are meant to evoke this. There's more than one kind of melancholic girl who can have a very powerful impact on audiences.

I think that, combined with her character design, is why Inori is doing well in ISML 2012 so far.
