As for them "appearing" that is only a promotional picture from the DYRL movie. It was one of the posters I believe, they just re-edited it. For die hard fans you may have noticed all the obscure ref's to other macross series in this episode.
1). Sheryl Norme starts her concert by saying "Listen to my song!", this is what Basara would say before he sang.
2). The female Lt. who escorts Sheryl Norme is a Misa Hayase look alike.
3). The Chinese restaurant is decorated exactly like the "Little White Dragon" (The restaurant from SDF Macross that Minmai worked at.
4) Luka's phone is a play on Mylene Jenius's pet... the little tibble thing she had.
5) When the episode ends with Alto in Gerwalk posed as he was and the enemy posed is a play on Hikaru's first close encounter with the Zentradai in SDF Macross.
