I don't know how short is short for you but have you read
Ohhikoshi? It's by the sane creator as Blade of the Immortal which means amazing, kinetic art. College life with all the booze, romance and lust, all told in a very tongue in cheek sort of way. Funny stuff.

Witches (
Children of the Sea too though it's not yet finished) has a folklorish feel to it that reminds me of Mushishi and Ghibli. Fusion of myths and religion, but you might get something else out of it.
