I rather like Haruyuki. I think he's a decent guy and a great character.

Those are very different things. A character can be awesome as a character in a story (by fulfilling the role they're meant to play in an interesting and plausible fashion) while still being an utter bastard.

Noumi, for instance, is both a good character and a rotten person.
