Being depressing is good. It makes everything all the more memorable. What better way to end F/SN than to kill off all the characters you see and love through Fate and UBW.

Think about it, if they spent the last 5 ep of this animation animating S_ _ _ _ being killed by S_ _ _ _ after being corrupted by the Shadow like in the game, people who had not played the game will spent days discussing why.

Of course people will remember the scene where B_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ swallowed the Grail to save I_ _ _ _ from death, giving more depth to this otherwise one-dimension character.
