I've played Xenogears, Xenosaga, and Breath of Fire. Those were good games, but I didn't get the epic feel from them. Lufia and Lufia II (SNES) were two other games that gave me that feeling.
I've been meaning for a long time to pick up Suikoden III, but I heard it was hard to find, and I haven't played the prequels so I was afraid of feeling lost. I might go try out Phantasy Star
