I actually think Mari's EVA is pretty cool and I think I know why its designed this way.
In the earlier trailers, this EVA was shown moving fast through a tunnel, I suspect a train tunnel.
See those two attachments on the shoulder plates? It could be for connecting to the overhead cables that supply power to trains. All EVAs need an electrical power source, if this EVA is running rails, an umbilical cable wouldn't be long enough, using overhead train cables is the perfect solution.
This EVA is customised for a railway battle.
