Actually Itachi seemed a lot more impressed by kakashi when he praised him to be able to use his Sharingan to this extent though he isn't a true Uchiha, still Kakashi isn't at Itachi's level.
And Itachi didn't seem to enjoy the commotion at all, he didn't stop to say to Kisame that they should leave since the beginning and it's what he did.
He wanted to leave, Kakashi, Asuma and Kurenai tried to stop him and they failed.
The goal of the Jounins was to arrest Itachi, the goal of Itachi was to leave to seek Naruto.
The fact that Gai came and that the reinforcement was coming stopped Itachi and Kisame to take Kakashi to know how he knew about the Akatsuki because Itachi didn't want to start a war in the middle of Konoha but that's all, in the end Itachi left freely as he wanted whereas the attempt to stop him was a faillure.

The ability of Gai to fight without looking his opponent in the eyes allows him to avoid the Genjutsu of the Sharingan but that's all, once again the strength, speed and Taijutsu of Gai make him more or less the equal of Kakashi.
And Itachi is simply better than Kakashi in everything.

Gai is probly the strrongest of the journin in konoha. When we did see him fighting those sound his moves did seem to be similar in strength lvl to what tsundee was doing. IE wall crushing power in every hit.

You're dreaming, Tsunade's blows litteraly destroyed parts of the landscape, maybe you forgot that she destroyed a street with a simple kick, opened the ground with a mere finger and swung the sword of Gamabunta without even sweating?
Gai's strong but in front of Tsunade's physical strength it's a joke.
