In the context of describing a manga or fanfiction though, I got the feeling that Yuri means 'harder' showing of a lesbian relationship. Well, compared to Shoujo-ai, which is more softcore. I always got the impression that when one says 'Yuri Manga', they mean 'lesbian hentai manga'.
FYI, Yaoi is the opposite of Yuri, and shounen-ai is the opposite of shoujo-ai.
Which reminds me, how come there's a warning in Animesuki if a show is Shounen-ai, but never when it's shoujo-ai? >_>

Because many people would consider a "shoujo-ai" tag as an advertisement rather than a warning.
