I am quite happy to see that Zero has greatly matured and have calmed down considerably. This is the kind of change I have hoped his character will undergo. I commend him for that and am liking him more. I do not take back what I said about him in earlier chapters because that is how he acted then. But I didn't say that that is how he will continue to act, so it is good to see that my hope in his character was not wrongly placed.
It seems that Zero was able to absorb some of Shizuka's blood after all. This seems to have slowed down his fall to Level E. It does make me wonder whether Kaname intentionally gave Zero Shizuka's blood (through him) so prevent Zero from falling to level E - maybe this is a plan that he will leave Yuuki in Zero's care in the future.
It is interesting to see that Zero is beginning to strategize like Kaname now - unlike his rash behaviour before.
The set up with Zero as Hunter head and Kaname as Vampire head can only lead to an obvious ending...one of them will have to go down - and we can probably guess who will sacrifice his existence.
From how Kaname acts and what he is doing, I think Kaname knows what his fate will be. His "preparations" for the vampires and for Yuuki is like someone preparing for their loved ones before they pass away. It is quite obvious that Kaname wants to make sure Yuuki will have a safe existence before he leaves - and he is trying to enjoy as much time he as left with his beloved. Yuuki, obviously, doesn't know this and hurts him more than she realizes.
I am not a Yuuki fan, sorry to say. Her character has greatly disappointed me. She is the weakest heroine Matsuri Hino has created compared to her other series. All the work is being done by Kaname and Zero and she is simply a protected lamb. Even her mother, Juuri, was able to do something and not simply huddle in a corner. And if you argue it's because Kaname makes her go into hiding, I won't buy it. We have seen that if Yuuki insists on something, Kaname will permit it - that is the kind of love he has for her. She's a weak heroine and nothing more - at least right now. Now she is acting the way Zero was acting about accepting who she has become.
Frankly, I can't see Yuuki being with any of the main male antagonists (Zero or Kaname). Her character can't be considered on par with them at this level. T_T Let us hope that she will also mature, like Zero has, to a level worthy of standing beside either one of the men.
Interesting chapter but it appears that Zero may be the last man standing in the final confrontation...and Kaname is the heroic sacrifice. Maybe once Kaname dies for her, Yuuki will finally realize her true feelings - of course it'll be too late.
