There is a possibility Kitamura may have something similar with Ami here.
He's a nice, upstanding guy, energetic, very social, and encourages his friends a lot. This is just a plain dumb move/mistake.
This couldn't have been a slip of judgement on his part, unless he's totally gay for Ryuuji. He might be taking advantage of his reputation so he can be pardoned for this obvious foul up.
