I'm not going to be pretend to be an expert on nuclear stuff (and the whole debate thing about nuclear science a few pages ago got a bit off-topic so I didn't bother to read most of it
), but yeah I would assume that nuclear reactors have heat and pressure in them, which don't just turn off like a light switch.
