That is my belief; she isn't raising him to be Genji, but rather raising him to be her male version of 'Lady Murasaki'. Through his exploits, the aunt can teach the main character lessons of self-control, confidence, sexual prowess and likely other facets as the story progresses to make him into her ideal lover. She even professes in the first chapter that her favorite character was Lady Murasaki, we just assume because of gender roles that the main character will be Genji. I don't think that will be the case.

My guess is that she had some sort of unrequited love with the main characters father, hence why seeing him beg her to do something had such a big impact on her.
