Each one is capable of generating an energy field. The general purpose of the shield is to protect the dagger itself from damage during attacks and sustaining damage from external attempts to shoot it down. Extra function is an overdrive which causes the generated energy fields to become much bigger and denser than the intended design for expanded shielding or formation of energy blades.
