Not just subtlety, but also intensity as well. Everything just seems so opposite to the intent of the scenes.

This is probably also due to the fact that the novels were the epitome of subtle, never actually showing anything but just describing (to somewhat excruciating detail), with much eerie-er music playing.

Basically, after three anime episodes, I've come to accept that I am just not going to be able to enjoy the anime version no matter how well it is done (although to be fair, I don't feel there has been a single excellent episode yet). VN players are too spoiled and attuned to comparing with the source to be able to focus on the anime as it tries to present the mystery.

However, I am finding the anime to be a rather convenient way to review the events from the game (with the side effect of all the missing parts being etched into my brain).
