As for the "message" of the movie... well, there appear to be more than one.

For instance, one of the bigger ones IMO is that you have to actually earn being a hero or getting a medal; you can't just take it. Ralph wanted to get a medal, and he ended up having to earn it- at least in the sense that getting the physical medal was easy, but the meaning of said medal... he had to do a bit of work for that. And just to touch on james's thoughts, it appeared more to me that everyone has a place, and you should never take it for granted where you are... of course, you only realize this once things start going completely wrong.

This is definitely a movie I'm going to buy when it comes out on DVD/BD, and I'm probably also going to go see it again over Thanksgiving break from college

Definitely a good comment on a message of the movie. I'm also with you in buying this down the road when the BD version comes out.
