I'm fine with that. Besides, I'm well aware that TE cannot even compare to the main series. It's primary goal was to expand upon the tsf technology which they delivered without problems. That, plus selling TSF figures to the fans. lol.

Why would you want to read synopsis for the main trilogy? Is it to understand the Muv-Luv world better? If so, it's not needed. Kouki already mentioned they plan to make the anime friendly to the newcomers so don't worry. Plus, I don't recommend doing such things just to be on the safe side.
Yes, Total Eclipse has different cast than the trilogy.
