Crossovers between light novel series of similar publisher do happen when the moon, sun and stars all align; I know that there's a baka test/haruhi crossover in the making.

Slightly more frequent to my knowledge are crossovers from titles with the same author, SAO/AW and denyuuden/Itsuten for example.

And there are even some cases where a different author takes a shot at writing a oneshot of another series. The author of durarara wrote an SS story for Railgun.
