G'day blokes and blokettes,

I don't know if anyone else on these boards has seen this but there's been a Zombie Survival mod in the works for a few months which has finally gone Alpha about two weeks ago.

I've been playing for the last few nights and had some very fun times even if just by myself.

It's definitely a game to play as a group with everyone in a TS or Vent server with mics and working together. There are some very good videos of players working together on YouTube showing how even a small group can dispatch an entire town of Zombies and reap the benefits.

That said you don't even have to be friendly and what I found playing solo is that a chance encounter with another survivor can be anything but profitable.

I've watched helplessly in the distance as noob players are ambushed by Bandits armed to the teeth. I've seen RPGs used on players holed up in buildings. Unsuspecting survivors picked off by Bandit Snipers. Even witnessed a Survivor camp raided by a God damn Blackhawk with working door guns...

It can be just as much fun to hunker down and watch other players than to get in the action yourself.

Here's a short blurb of my first session posted on another forum to spread the word;

I had spawned on what I would come to find to be the western most shore.

After discovering the edge of the world and coming to the conclusion that she is flat, I turned east where I soon came across a small town. A quick google search for a map let me deduce I was in the quaint town of Povlovo.

Excited at the prospect of finding a new weapon or water I brazenly saddled up and explored the town. After avoiding the local populace I exited the town with an extra although empty canteen I headed north towards Zelenogorsk in hopes of richer pickings.

I have to say meeting a player after adventuring on your own for so long is a nervy moment. Last night I encountered a bloke and when I saw his name, I spoke out over the open channel.

He immediately went to ground and looked around frantically for me but I was hiding and using the third person camera to keep tabs on him. He didn't respond to my requests of if he was friendly so I kept watching him and when he finally headed off I stalked him from cover to cover for about five minutes.

Under observation I learned he had a Enfield and a 1911 and then he decided to raid a petrol station. He dispatched several Zombies and started searching corpses and the buildings. I snuck right up on him but still out of sight and asked again was he friendly all the ready to pop out and bust a cap in him...

But he finally said yes so I advised I would show myself... he was pretty startled when I appeared right behind him!

He sat down and talked a bit about our adventures because we had come from opposite ends of the countryside where I learned he was low on food and water, since I had ample supplies I gave him my spare canteen and some baked beans.

When he saw I only had a Makarov he gave me the last magazine he still had left for it and we discussed what to do from here on in. My first request was to find a better weapon when he claimed to have just found a Crossbow in a barn a kilometre away.

When I asked for directions since he had a map, he just said follow me. We backtracked towards the barn in question to find more zombies. I offered to clear them out alone since it was for my own sake but he insisted to help out. We cleared the barn only to find the crossbow had reset as more god damn Winchester ammunition...

Shortly afterwards it was getting late so I said my goodbyes and trekked off into the forest to let my gameplay save.

But I was very impressed to have met such a helpful player who if he didn't reply, I would have tried to kill.

A bit nervy to load it up after all the reports I've also heard of bandits running rampant.

tldr;

Zombies. Massive Sand Box World. Do what you want!

For an Alpha it has a lot of potential and with more community support I think we're one step closer to that ideal zombie survival mod we all dream about.
