Hmmm.
Spoiler
for
Warping and planetary positions
:
Uranus would be closer to Pluto in 2199. Jupiter is on the other side of the system from Pluto. Using "Celestia" I figure that the map in the UNCF floor was basically correct about the orbital positions of Mars and Earth in early February of 2199. However I noticed something. Pluto would be on the opposite side of the system from Mars at that time of year.
Kirishima
would have needed to take a wide orbital path around the system to reach Mars in three weeks rather than fly past Earth to get to Mars and then fly back to Earth with Kodai and Shima.
Yamato
heading to Mars seems alright even though they have to cross the distance from Earth to the Sun and then the distance from the Sun to Mars to get their at sublight. A warp to Uranus would seem logical for a test. Jupiter would be around closest approach to Mars for the year and I suppose the gravity might pull Yamato there in the warp...though the Sun's stronger pull might take her too. They might have calculated for the Sun, but not Jupiter. (guessing here, no idea how warp physics should work).
This though does have an interesting side effect. Jupiter is relatively close to Saturn in the early months of 2199, on the far side of the system relative to Pluto. Close enough to repair the ship without having to go back to Earth, but also heading in the "wrong" direction if the destination is Uranus or Pluto. "Wrong" being a relative term since flight to anywhere in the star system doesn't get them to Iscandar since that is "south" of Earth relative to the planetary axis. Or basically "below" Earth and the orbital paths of the planets in this solar system.
