For all we know, Aizen may have come across a depiction of the "Spirit King" during the massive amounts of research he did throughout the past century. Notice how Urahara knew exactly what Aizen was referring to when he called the Spirit King by "that thing"? That implies that Urahara probably also knows what the Spirit King looks like. Come to think of it, Aizen likely knew what the King looked like since before the SS arc. Because in hindsight, his monologue upon leaving for HM begins to make total sense in that regard. He implied to know that the Spirit King wasn't an actual being back then because he talked about how the throne in heaven was vacant and that not even Gods stood on top of the world. Assuming the Spirit King really is nothing more than "a thing" I suppose that would make a lot of sense. Afterall, if a mere object is all that stands above anyone and everyone (including the gods themselves), then technically, heavens throne could be considered vacant.

But I digress. So just because Aizen and Urahara may have technically seen the Spirit King, it doesn't necessarily mean that they had to enter the Kings Realm just to do it. As far as we know, Aizen never managed to break into his realm.
