They're just short CG movies from different Gundam titles/timelines. The first one is from the original Mobile Suit Gundam with footage(more like a recap) from both the tv series and movies. The second one is from Zeta Gundam with Camille doing an execrise in Gundam Mk II. The third one is from Mobile Fighter G Gundam, and the last one is from Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory. The CG does get better as it progresses. The last one is the best one IMO. The 5th one sets in year UC 0093 during Char's Counterattack, and it features Amuro in Nu-Gundam and Quess in Mobile Armor Azieru.

And no, you don't have to have prior knowledge of the series to appreciate it. It's really about die hard fans ogling at Gundams and purty CG.
