Thank you SeijiSensei and Konakaga for the suggestions; especially yours, Konakaga for filling in the additional elements. I have read a few episode summaries and watched episode 1 for both shows and decided that Senki Zesshou Symphogear is more appealing as of now. I'll finish it/catch up to the airing schedule before finishing/catching up to Gatchaman Crowds.

Kanade attacks with something I consider borderline magic since a tornado generates just by her lance rotating. At least Tsubasa's falling swords become physical after striking. Though I guess it's not that bad since Kanade died in episode 1 and from what I read online,

Hibiki doesn't use the lance so she shouldn't be using 'magic' either.
