What reason would the programmed illusion have to not include the sword if he's really using a sword anyway? How would Kirito know what his own illusion looked like such that he could lie about it in a way that was consistent with what Leafa actually saw? Why wouldn't he boast about how cool the illusion was rather than "making up" what he just did?

It's an interesting theory, but I think it doesn't really hold up.
