Yea, it's possible the diary never had the spell. Ringo had it for years and never recalls having coming across it.
It's also quite likely that Momoka was able to talk through the hat only after the diary got burned.
Anyways, I hope the ending really be one of those which will be talked of for months maybe even years (in a good way
)
