Pay attention to the details of the changes. Some of the changes made already are quite substantial and will have enormous impact upon the ending. I don't really know how they change the battles with the Angels per se because the whole plot with the Angels is fixed as is Shinji's development with them in some sense.

The ending is where we should see most of the changes if all of this is done right, since most of the middle events should be setting it up for a different path at the end.

Plenty of people believe this to somehow be connected to the original series as a reoccurrence of the prior events after EoE with some kind of loopback. I.E. the pools of blood and whatnot where possibly the perfect Eva series died as well as Kaworu saying to Adam about this whole thing happening again and Adam never changing.

Also, the fact that Adam isn't going to just be an embryo and is going to be a full fledged angel is a humongous difference that means we should get to see a vastly different battle shape up at the end.

But his role will be at the end as will most of the big changes to come. Just watch for the minute changes in the first 3 movies, since I doubt they'll rock the boat that much, especially if they're playing it off as a kind of loop off the original series.

Personally I loved what they did with the 5th angel. It looked so awesome in updated form.
