You guys truly are awesome and overcame the largest obstacle to open-source development: Coordination.
If these patches are accepted (hopefully they will, the deadline hasn't passed yet), MPlayer benefiting will only be the tip of the iceberg.
The gstreamer team just finished committing their libass implementation yesterday and so far, it is looking good and these patches will only help in the long run. As for VLC, since their subtitle renderer also relies on libass, the same applies.
