My hope was that the movie was going to take place after a time-skip. Possibly with the main girls now in College or University. I think that there was some great potential there to see what became of Ohana and friends long after the Inn closed.
So yeah, I'm disappointed too. I felt that HSI was both thorough and
very fair to its supporting cast (when it comes to amount of development and screen time, anyway). If anything, it had too many episodes devoted to particular supporting cast members. On the whole, I can't think of a major subplot that took place during HSI that really calls for a full-fledge movie narrative to properly flesh it out.
Maybe the Ohana-Ko romance, but that's probably it.
I hate to say it, but this movie now feels like a cash-in to me...
