I didn't think it was that bad. I mean at least it focused on the couple instead of an election. Sure there was some whining in this second part, but that only brought it down a bit for me.
Could really feel sympathy regarding calling home. Sometimes a younger sibling needs to be quiet and let you explain what's up. Of course in that kind of situation just called collect and the issue was getting them to answer at all
